What Now

                    What Now

On Sunday the 13th of September I went to What Now in Shantytown with Room 8 and 7.

The Presenters were Erin, Morgan was the director, Matt was the cameraman and the other Matt was the guy who did the props.

I went with Kade and Flynn when we got inside of Shantytown. We didn't really see anything, it was kinda empty. I thought there would be watersides, water guns and obstacles but no sadly.  I enjoyed getting foamed at the end, and going on the train at the start.

First at Shantytown we went on the train for a good entrance and we did that for a practice first and then we went live for 5 mins.

Then we went to the tongue twisters by the fire station. The people that did it were Emma, Zade, Mea and Lucey. Emma ended up winning but she still got foamed. She tried to run away which was funny.

Once we finished the tongue twisters we went gold panning. I didn't really get a spot in the gold panning, so I just watched people get gold and it was funny. Jack T probably got the most. It was funny when Seth put his head underwater.

After that we went to the movie and we all lined up and once we went live again we had to run into the theater.  2 minutes later we ran out saying it was bad and all.

Then we went to the place where Ms Newton got gunged. To gunge Ms Newton we had to think of something to say bad about her and Noah Marrist said, “You got new balls but you didn't fix the basketball hoop.” Before that she had to answer some questions and if she got them right we got foamed. She got two questions right and one wrong answer. Then she got gunged and it was funny.

At the end we all were going to get foamed by Erin and it went all in my face and in my ears and everywhere. Then when the show ended we got free gunge.  The Show was 50 50 because it was a little boring when we had to wait and I didn't really do anything.

Lake Daniell

                      Lake Daniell

On the 9th of September we were on the way to Lake Daniell to go Tramping. Lake Daniell is in the Lewis Pass area and the Lewis Pass is a road that crosses over the Southern Alps.

I Traveled Tim and Bob, Billie W, and Indi.  The travel was quiet but that was okay.  I just about fell asleep and on the way back to Greymouth Billie W felt sick. Preparations were when we watched videos about tramping and all the things we had to have and do if we got lost.

We stopped at Reefton to go to the toilet. We played Bullrush too. When we got  to the Lake Daniell’s walk, we all got our bags and started walking up the track.

What I enjoyed the most about walking the Lake Daniell track with my classmates was how we all just talked and had a lot of fun and we got to leave school for a day.

We walked to the Kohanga Atawhai - Manson Nichols hut and it was cool. I liked the seat that they made out of wood. The lake was cool for photos and videos and there were lots of hills and cool beech forest. It was a spring tramp.

Why we went was because of the william pike project, and we are trying to walk the length of New Zealand for a School kit organisation.  The William Pike Challenge is to get out of the class and do lots of fun activities like the beach cook out and the Lake Daniell tramp and, soon, a bike ride.

I wonder how many steps we did on the Lake Daniels walk? It's good that no one got hypothermia. Thank you to all the parents for helping us go on the tramp. Leave No Trace!

The end of the world

          The End of the World

In the School Journal I read the end of the world by John O, Brien.

"Frog sat beside the stream, tears rolling down his fat green cheeks. He sobbed and sobbed, as though it was the saddest day in all his life." This story was average, I like a story that is more outdoorsy.

Conservation week Poem

The Ika Poem

I swam as fast as I could

to the closest coral reef

boats chasing me

skimming  across the water

Like a flying fish

White tips of the waves crashing

Finally

the reef

pretty pink, blue, and yellow coral shining off the water

then it was silent

the deep, blue moana

it was like... nothing.

Suddenly

sharp grey hooks

Descend down slowly

ika swam up

and vanished

I scream sharply

warning every fish in the reef

Splash!

Then it was silent ..

Simple Machines

Simple Machines

I learnt that there are 6 simple machines in the world. They are called inclined plane, wedges, screws, levers, wheels and axles and pulleys. One thing I learnt from an inclined plane; an inclined plane is a ramp that is on a slight angle and it makes it easy for people on wheelchairs to get up on something. The smaller the angle is on the ramp, even if this increases the distance, it is easier to get up the incline.

I am reading a fiction book. Called armistice Runner to lives connected by memory Tom Palmer

My Favorite part of the book was when they were talking about The two lives comparing to each other, Could his incredible story of bravery help her reconnect with her gran and even give her the inspiration she needs to push through and win.

Hedgehogs are cute, clever, and have an amazing spiky defence system. It’s easy to see why people like them. Problem is, they are also very harmful here in NZ. It’s not their fault of course (they didn’t swim here themselves), but it is something we all need to be much more aware of them.

Matariki Star

We made the Matariki star because it is the season of Matariki, the Maori New Year.

We made them from string and cardboard and then we hung them in the class room.

Beach cookout

On the 1st of July me and my class went down to the beach for
a beach cookout as part of the William Pike Challenge.

My group made a log cabin which is a type of fire. We used 3
matches and tinder, kindling  and fuel wood. After the fire was
going Jack, Flynn, Cailan and I cooked the nachos. They tasted
excellent and they were crunchy because of the nachos. For
dessert we made s'mores. The S’mores tasted excellent too.

After we had cooked everything we put the fire out with water
and sand.  We did this to stop the fire from burning the trees
down.

I would want to do this again because it’s fun and you can get
outside and go to the beach.

Short story

WALT write within the genre of a fictional short story

Kade and I are from the USA. Kade and I met at high school and we have been best friends since then. We were on a plane going to New Zealand where I was watching typical gamers stream.   After 3 hours  I fell asleep halfway through it.

When we arrived kade woke me up with a big smack.
“What was that for?”
Kade said, “You were asleep and we are here.”
“Ohh, so that gives you a reason to smack me!?”
“Whatever,” Kade said. “Anyway, should we go to the skatepark?”
“K,”  I replied, “but first we have to check in.” when we got to
Our motel kade said, should we set the xbox one up  and unpake
Then we should go for a skate, I said, ok.

When we got to the skatepark  “I”
Said, this looks  gnarly,  yeah it does said, Kade but let's skate.
It is all slimy said, Kade, it's all green  James says,?

When they got back to the motel Kade Kept  mentioning it and how strange it was to have slime on a skate park  I said, It is really strange. So we went there the next day at about lunch time and it was gone WHAT I said, How it was sticky as who would get that off, what off someone said Kade said, ‘’Slime’’ What slime dude, any why  he left about an hour later. I told kade what i think we should do, which was come back at midnight  and see if it comes back or maybe someone would come back?.

It is 12:00 o' am at night and we went down there nothing was going down
But I saw someone coming. I said, Kade hide, someone is coming. He walked into
The skatepark looking for someone, it was like he wanted to be meeting someone there
Kade said, that's strange he was holding something in his hand. I couldn't quite see it.
Then this dodgy looking guy come running down the street  into the skatepark and Said,
HAVE YOU GOT IT in a really deep voice it sounded like he was not a normal human being. Kade said, good thing i've got binoculars, so he looked at the thing that we couldn't quite  see. Kade Said, it was slime, it can't be I said, they are the ones who put it there?. But what do they want with it? I took

some photos of them and once they had left we ran back to our motel and went to bed ready for the next day.
……….

It was the Wednesday  and we  woke up early and went straight down to the skatepark
It wasn't slimy  but there was a note just lying there on the ground. It said, slime bomb quote room 3 0 5, I said what is wrong with New Zealand these days. A little bite has been broken off,  Kade said, just another mystery. We took the note home and kept wondering what was going on here maybe they were trying to take over the world then suddenly kade said, There’s a map on the other side of the note And it leads to quote room 3 0 5, The first word that came out of our mouths were lets go find out whats going on Hayyyyyyaaaahayyyaaa whats going on, sorry about that boys I really like that song i heard you say what going on Kade said, yeah but not about that song exoes me young boy did your mum not teach you manners, then i shut  the door on here face because i had more important things going on right now ba here yaping all day  so any why thets go. When we got there I saw the people walking around the room ageing kade Said, I saw the lime ball so I said, Lets go and get it and smash it on there heads and shut all the doors and run and call the cops and they  will deal with it, Ok kade said. I went in and Got the slimeBall why they weren't looking  and smashed it on the flough and ran why kade called the cops and then they came in about 2 mins so we left.  When we got back to the motel James’s phone got a message from his mum and said to be at the airport in 10mns. We were like WHAT!!.

Statistical Investigation

Scavenger Hunt

Name: James
Questions Worksheet WALT understand Earth systems sea week context: moon, tides, ocean, currents.
Fact Card#1: How does water move on the surface of the ocean? The water is constantly moving  on the surface. The water moves in a form of waves.
Fact Card#2: How does water move below the surface of the ocean? The water is constantly  moving. Below the surface the water moves in great currents.
Fact Card #3: What are the two types of ocean  currents?  Fact Card #4: Define ocean currents. Ocean currents are moving streams of water within the ocean.
Fact Card #5: Define the ‘surface current’.Currents that moves on or near the surface of the ocean is called surface current.
Fact Card #6: List the factors which control the surface currents. Air currents, Earth rotation and location of                continents.
Fact Card#7: Which factors affect the flow of ocean surface water? Global wind belts are a major factor affecting the flow of the ocean surface water.
Fact Card# 8: How are deep currents generated in the ocean? Deep currents difference in the water due to the temperature gradient movies the water and creates deep currents.

Fact Card #9: Write down the characteristics of cold and warm water. Cold water is more dense and it  also sinks and movies. Warm water is less dense and it rises up.

Fact Card #10: Which ocean currents travel faster? Surface currents will travel faster than deep water currents.

Fact Card #11: Write the factors that cause the deep currents. Deep ocean currents are caused by changes in the temperature salinity and density of the water.

Fact Card #12: How do the Sun and the Moon cause the ocean The gravitational pull of the moon and sun is also an important factor to cause
 Ocean currents.

Fact Card #13: Give the definition of wave. A Wave is a rhythmic movement that carries energy through matter or space.

Fact Card#14: What are the causes of waves?
Waves are caused by wind Earthquakes gravitational forces of the moon and sun.

Fact Card#15: List the characteristics of a wave. Wavelength wave height crest
Fact Card#16: Write the parameters on which the wave height is dependent.Dependent on  wind speed Distance And length.
Fact Card #17: What happens during tide? The tide rises and falls and the sea level under the gravitational pull of the sun and moon.
Fact Card #18: What do you mean by high tide? It is when the water level is at its highest
Fact Card #19: What do you mean by low tide?  Low tide is when it is at its lowest
Fact Card #20: How does the Moon’s gravity pull ocean water? the moon's gravity pulls the water on earth towards it. The water moves up into a slight bulge on the side of the earth that faces the moon
Fact Card#21: What is the cycle duration of high/low tide? Generally one low tide /high tide cycle takes at every 12 hours and 25 minutes.
Fact Card#22: Define tidal range.
The difference in the ocean level between high and low tide is called the title range.
Fact Card#23: When does spring tide occur? Spring tides occur when the earth ,the sun and the moon are in a line .
Fact Card #24: Which tides occur during a full/new moon? Spring tides occur during the full the moon and the new moon
Fact Card #25: When does neap tide occur? Neap tides  occur when the moon and sun are perpendicular to each other.
Fact Card #26: Which tides occur during the quarter moon? neap tides occur during quarter moons.
Fact Card #27: Which tides are known as weak tides? Why? Neap tides are weak tides as the gravitational forces of the moon and the sun counteract each other, creating weaker tidal forces.
Fact Card#28: Which tides are known as strong tides? Why? Spring tides are because the moon and the sun's gravitational force combine to create a strong tide.

Strong spring tides.
